MALE staff in Wotton-under-Edge are taking part in Movember to raise money for cancer care.

Men working at Specialised Wiring Accessories are taking part in the national fundraiser which sees men stop shaving and growing moustaches for the month of November.

The company has raised £260 so far by people supporting the male staff letting their facial hair grow.

The general manager, Warren Gibbons, said: “I started to organise this after my brother was diagnosed with cancer, and he got through it and then he went to do Movember, so I joined him.

“I felt that it was important and I wanted to do it after feeling grateful for the treatment my brother had. This year, nine members of staff have got involved. Even customers have seen staff doing it and then shown an interest, which I think is a really good thing.”

Specialised Wiring Accessories has been in service for over 25 years and mainly employ local people.

Staff participating aim to raise funds for the Movember Foundation’s men’s health programmes and treatment and care for men living with prostate or testicular cancer.

The charity also aims to raise awareness of the health risks men face.

Mr Gibbons said: “I think there are two elements to it, it’s about raising awareness as well as getting donations. There’s a real team camaraderie going on and it’s a discussion point here.

“It has the fun element while raising money and it brings people together.”
