REDNOCK School in Dursley celebrated jumping forward a position in Ofsted’s ranking after it was awarded “good” following a recent inspection.

Rednock School, in Kingshill Road, Dursley, was visited by inspectors on November 19 and 20 earlier this year.

After an anxious wait, teachers, pupils and parents were delighted to hear that their school had received an overall grade of “good” topping their previous result of “requires improvement” received in December, 2012.

While at the school inspectors observed students during 40 lessons, spoke to a range of pupils and looked extensively at the work in their books.

Rednock was praised for its leadership and management, with head Dave Alexander complimented for his “enthusiasm” and “inspirational vision”.

Students were commended for their attitude to learning and behaviour, and progress in English was called “outstanding.”

Mr Alexander said: “The report recognises that we have worked hard as a school community – staff, parents, students, governors and the wider community – to bring about this success.

“The School’s vision that every student matters and our core values of quality, partnership and success mean that we will work closely with parents, governors and staff to ensure that every student in our school has the best opportunities and experiences to ensure that they become well rounded, confident people with the best results that they can achieve.

“Let’s celebrate the success which we have all achieved and recognise that there will not be any complacency as we look to push on from here.”

Though most areas of the school were described by Ofsted in a positive light, there were factors that prevented them reaching a result of “outstanding.”

The sixth form provision at the school was noted as requiring improvement, with the report suggesting pupils are not given enough academic support to succeed in their studies.

The report also mentions some inconsistencies in teaching that lead to some students, particularly those who are high-achieving, not being challenged enough to keep them motivated.

Rednock is a larger than average school that teaches ages 11 to 18. It currently has just under 1,300 students on the school roll.
