A CHIPPING Sodbury shop worker is lighting up her house with an extravagant Christmas display to raise money for charity.

Bernice Box, who lives in Warmley, decorates her house to raise funds for charity every year and her display this year is bigger than ever before.

She has put on the display in aid of the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC), and the money raised will benefit the charity’s ChildLine Schools Service.

The fund-raising display includes Christmas lights, inflatable decorations and a giant snow globe.

Mrs Box, who is a Blakemore Retail employee at the SPAR store on the high street, said: “The NSPCC is our nominated charity and every year we try to raise as much money as we can through a variety of activities in store.

“My husband James has always enjoyed decorating the house for Christmas, he is a big kid at heart. It is a family tradition and every year the display gets bigger and better. This year we decided to take it to the next level and go all out to produce a fantastic display and raise money for a good cause at the same time.

“We’ve got lots of lights and big inflatables, including a giant snow globe with a snowman and Father Christmas inside. I really hope that people will come and enjoy our display and make a small donation to the NSPCC.”

Donations for the charity can be made through a collection bucket in her garden on Howes Close.

The money raised will benefit the NSPCC’s service which has been set up to give primary school children the awareness they need to recognise abuse, and to seek help sooner.

The charity’s corporate partnerships fundraising manager, Maribeth Lloyds, said: “We wish Bernice every success in this fantastic and imaginative fundraiser.

“The money raised will really help us keep children safe from harm, giving them a brighter, happier future.”

SPAR has been working in partnership with the NSPCC and ChildLine since 2006 and has raised over £4 million to support the charity’s services, which help many thousands of children and young people every year.

Blakemore Retail have raised more than £1.9 million for the charity through a range of activities including a sponsored cycle, Mount Snowdon sponsored walk and a five a side football competition.

The decorations at Mrs Box's house have been on display since Saturday, December 6 and will continue to entertain neighbours and visitors until the New Year.
