AN 80-YEAR-OLD who was run over by his own car in Woodend Lane, Cam, on Wednesday, is on the mend at Southmead Hospital.

A spokeswoman for Gloucestershire Police said: "He appears to be doing well in hospital, but he is going to be kept in for a few days for observation."

The update on the condition of the man comes from information the police received yesterday. Initial reports described the injuries as "life changing."

Gloucestershire Police are still appealing for witnesses to the incident, which police became aware of after receiving a phone call at approximately 11am on Wednesday, January 14.

It is believed the driver was manoeuvring his Ford C-Max on his driveway, in Woodend Lane, Cam, when he stopped to pick up a rubbish bag.

It appears that while doing this he fell from the vehicle and was subsequently run over by the car.

He was taken to Southmead Hospital, in Bristol, by ambulance with what is believed to be life changing injuries.

Police want to reassure the community that this is the reason why there was a police presence in the area on Wednesday. If anyone did witness what happened they are asked to contact 101, quoting incident number 131 of January 14.

Great Western Air Ambulance also responded to the accident.
