A PUB near Berkeley that can’t seem to stop winning awards has now been shortlisted in a competition hosted by a popular BBC programme.

The Salutation Inn, in Ham, is one of ten pubs across the UK that could win Countryfile’s Rural Pub of the Year award for 2014/15.

The pub, owned by first-time landlords Peter and Claire Tiley, is popularly known to locals as the Sally, and has gone from success to success since the pair opened it just over a year and a half ago.

The Salutation Inn is one of ten pubs shortlisted for the Countryfile award across the country including pubs from Scotland, Cumbria, Wales and Surrey.

The couple are delighted to be a shortlisted for the award and are happy to see the programme celebrate rural pubs.

Mr Tiley said: “Claire and I are thrilled to be nominated for BBC Countryfile’s Rural Pub of the Year. Having raised our own rare breed pigs last year we’re obviously keen followers of the programme so would be chuffed if we won.

“We’re very grateful that Countryfile is championing rural pubs in this way as they really do face an incredibly tough time at the moment – and, due to lack of rural services, the role they play is arguably more vital to the community than pubs in more built-up areas.”

As well as the result of the Countryfile Award, the Salutation is also waiting to hear the result of the CAMRA National Pub of the Year Award for which it is also a finalist, reaching the last four in the country.

Keeping them happy until decisions are made on those competitions is the fact that the pub has won two further local CAMRA awards this month, including the Dursley & District Pub of the Year 2015 and the Dursley & District CAMRA Cider and Perry Pub of the Year 2015.

This is the second year in a row that the Salutation has won these two awards and brings the number of awards the pub has won in the last two years to seven.

The BBC Countryfile Rural Pub of the Year Award is open to a public vote. Have your say by visiting www.countryfile.com/awards2014-15. Votes must be submitted by the end of the month.

Winners of the competition will be crowned in the April edition of the Countryfile magazine.
