GLOUCESTERSHIRE Libraries will welcome young wizards, witches and muggles for a special evening of activities.

The first ever Harry Potter book night will be celebrated throughout the world on Thursday, February 5, and Gloucestershire Libraries are getting ready to host their own events.

The wizardry fun kicks off at Charlton Kings, Hesters Way, and Up Hatherley in Cheltenham where Potter fans can join in with crafts and activities, and find out which Hogwarts house they belong to.

Hesters Way and Cheltenham libraries will have a special visit from a live owl.

Libraries will be sharing the wonder of JK Rowling’s unforgettable stories and introducing the next generation of readers to the magic of Harry Potter.

The evening will include games, activities, readings and quizzes.

Additionally, Stroud library will be holding an all day event on National Libraries Day on Saturday, February 7, with plenty more hands-on crafts and activities to get stuck into.

Cabinet member responsible for libraries Cllr Andrew Gravells said: “I’ve always been a fan of the Harry Potter books because they have encouraged so many children to discover a love of reading.

"I would encourage people from across the county to get involved in the magic and get along to one of the events.”
