PUPILS at Manorbrook Primary School in Thornbury raised £300 for the children's charity UNICEF by organising and running a charity sale.

The year six children persuaded the whole school to rummage through cupboards at home and donate any unwanted toys, games, books and puzzles to the sale.

They also promoted and set up the event, staffed the stalls and involved younger pupils by getting them to serve their customers.

UNICEF was chosen to benefit from the sale as a way of remembering former school governor and "reading buddy" Dr Jean Clark, who died before Christmas and had been a strong supporter of the charity.

Headteacher Angela Evans said: "It was a fantastic event, raising an amazing sum of money. I think Dr Jean would have been very proud of the children."
