FREE support groups for carers of people with mental health needs are being provided in Yate.

South Gloucestershire Council is providing support for carers through informal group sessions at Yate Library , on West Walk, where people are given the opportunity to talk to other carers and share experiences.

The groups also provide information about mental health in general, services in the area, signposting to specialist services, benefits advice, and a chance to raise any concerns and suggestions about mental health services.

Mo Dymond, an independent social worker who co-ordinates and facilities the support groups, said: “These groups used to be run by Rethink Mental Health project, however South Gloucestershire made cuts in funding and I was approached to ask if I would be interested in running them.

"People find the support groups beneficial, especially talking to people who understand."

The groups are free and also have visitors and organised activities, such as a solicitor, masseur and drumming workshops.

Attendees can join as little or often as they wish, on the third Tuesday of every month at the library, between 2pm and 4pm.

If you think you might like to come to one of the groups but would like to talk first phone on 07584167612 or email mo.d@hotmail.co.uk.
