PEOPLE in South Gloucestershire are being called to donate their time and collect for Marie Curie Cancer Care's biggest fundraising campaign next month.

Marie Curie Cancer Care needs volunteers to collect for its annual Great Daffodil Appeal, by encouraging people in the local community to give a donation and wear a daffodil pin during March.

The money raised from the Great Daffodil Appeal will help Marie Curie Nurses care for people with a terminal illness in their own home so they can spend more time with the people they love.

Natalie Garland, community fundraiser for Marie Curie in South Gloucestershire, said: “The Great Daffodil Appeal makes it possible for Marie Curie Nurses to provide free hands-on care for people with a terminal illness.

“Every March millions of people across the UK show their support for our work by simply giving a donation to wear a daffodil pin.

“We need as many people as possible to donate their time to help us make sure everyone is wearing a daffodil pin, so we can continue providing this vital care for local people.”

As well as local volunteer collectors, Marie Curie will be supported by the Lions Clubs of the British Isles and Ireland in March, with hundreds of collections being held by Lions Club members across the country on behalf of the charity.

Jackie Taylor, Daffodil Appeal collector said: “I collected for the Great Daffodil Appeal for the first time last year and I really felt like I was making a difference.

“So many people approach you to tell you about the support they’ve received from Marie Curie Nurses and the difference it made.

“It was a great feeling when we counted up all the coins at the end of the day and saw how much we’d raised. It’s nice to know you’re helping other people.”

The Great Daffodil Appeal has raised £80.4m since it first took place in 1986.

Marie Curie Cancer Care is the leading charity providing care to people with any terminal illness in their own homes or in one of its nine hospices.
