A FRUSTRATED Cam resident has finally hung up on broadband after spending hundreds of pounds attempting to receive the popular service.

Phil Bannister, 63, of Woodview Road has been told he cannot receive the service through his phone line despite living in a residential area.

British Telecom told him the news after he had spent over a year trying to get on the service, using three different providers and buying expensive service accessories.

He said: "It seems so unfair how others can get on so easily on my street and I'm left here tearing my hair out.

"You would of thought living in a residential area would mean the phone lines would have been sorted so I could get on broadband. Obviously not.

"I'm now going to have to try and sell the products I brought. It has been very frustrating."

BT spokesman Jason Mann said the broadband service can reach more than 99 per cent of homes in the UK and Mr Bannister is in the small minority of unlucky people'.

He said: "Comparing to other home services the number of people we can cover is very good.

"But we do recognise there is a small minority of customers who will have problems getting on broadband and we do work to finding solutions for these customers.

"If someone has a line broadband cannot use we try to find another line and in some cases there is not one available. This is the main reason these people cannot get on broadband.

"Mr Bannister can look at other ways to get on the service such as satellite."
