A SCHOOL in Wotton-under-Edge received a donation of £200 from a road safety charity established in the memory of a local boy who was killed on a local road.

The Jason Moir Trust, which was established five years ago with the aim of raising awareness of road safety and pushing for measures on dangerous roads, made a recent donation to the British School, in Wotton.

The JM Trust was given its name to contribute to the legacy of Jason Moir, who lost his life at the age of 12 in 1989 while walking to Katharine Lady Berkeley's School.

Tara Pring is the founder of the JM Trust and is keen to continue moving forward with the charity after years of success.

"We've been running this charity for the past five years and it's been a great success, however we still need more help," she said.

"Year after year we raise money by holding an event locally for the community who knew my brother, then use the money to go towards road safety awareness for local schools.

"Awareness is now so important as the government has stopped all funding to this sector, and the plans are to get rid of lollypop men and ladies as well."

Alistair Kendall, of the Trust, visited the British School to present the donation and talk about safety on roads.

Plans for the campaign for the coming year include working with Wotton Town Council and the Highways Agency to help maintain the path where Jason was killed.
