A CHARITY that supports older people throughout South Gloucestershire is encouraging grandparents providing childcare over the Easter holiday to check their home insurance cover.

Age UK South Gloucestershire is reminding residents who are likely to be caring for children with the approaching holiday, and may have accidental damage, to check their home insurance policies and be prepared for an incident.

Patrick Morrissey of Age UK South Gloucestershire said: “With the Easter holidays just around the corner and an estimated 9.8 million* grandparents recorded as providing childcare throughout the year, Age UK South Gloucestershire is asking grandparents to check their home insurance cover.

“Some policies do not include accidental damage as standard so it’s important to check the small print. From chocolate smeared across the walls, to sugar fuelled children running amok, grandparents should brace themselves for the potential of a few mishaps over the Easter break.

“And with research showing that children can cause up to, on average, £3,000 worth of damage in the home during their whole childhood, it could be a good idea for parents to check they’re covered too.”
