THE SPRING show of Thornbury Horticultural Society proved a huge success with dozens of exhibitors showing off their creations.

The top prize of the day was given to Alan Jenner who scored the most points across all categories.

The show consisted of 64 classes which were competed for by about 40 exhibitors.

Mr Jenner also was awarded the most points across the daffodil categories for his perfect plants, whilst the prize for most points won across the plants category was presented to Mrs D Culverhouse.

The prize for the best entry in the floral art category was won by Mrs Silverthorn.

In the arts and crafts categories, a number of fascinating entries led to a tie in the photography category between Mrs Honey Camp and Mrs Ann Smith.

The adult craft category was won by Mrs Camp whilst the top prize in the cookery category was given to Mrs J Harris.

Prizes in the children’s’ categories were won by Miss Latham-Roberts in the seven and under category and Grace Blumire for the eight to 14-year-old category.

Rita Freed, a member of the club, said: “It was a perfect spring day with the sun shining for the whole day.

“The Armstrong Hall was filled with spring flowers and plants in full blossom and the smell was especially strong – particularly from the Hyacinth class.

“I don’t know exactly how many people attended but we had a steady stream of people through the door during the afternoon."

At the conclusion of the show chairman of the society, Rex Davis, thanked all of the exhibitors and everyone who helped make the show a success.
