1. Michael Gove has leapt to the defence of David Cameron after the Prime Minister said he would not serve a third term last night

The Conservative Party's Chief Whip and former education minister Michael Gove defended the PM following accusations of arrogance and presumptuousness from Labour and the Lib Dems respectively. 

Mr Gove, speaking to BBC's Newsnight, has said Mr Cameron's comments revealed he is a "sane, decent guy."

2. The Labour party will today make a pledge not to raise VAT should they win the election 

The shadow chancellor Ed Balls is to make a "clear pledge" not to increase the tax at a speech in Birmingham today. 

VAT is a key part of Labour's economic attacks on the Conservatives.

3. A man was yesterday arrested for the murder of York chef Claudia Lawrence

The man, from York and in his 50s, is being held in police custody. 

Claudia Lawrence disappeared from her house on Heworth Road, York, after leaving for work on 19 March in 2009. Her body has still not been found.

Her family have been notified about the arrest with her father Peter Lawrence saying he was "encouraged" by continued police activity on the case. 

4. DJ Neil Fox was charged with nine sex offences, including three against women who were juveniles at the time 

Neil 'Foxy' Fox was charged with the offences yesterday, involving a total of six femail complainants, three of whom were under the age of 16. 

Scotland Yard said the 53-year-old, from Fulham in west London, will appear on bail at Westminster Magistrates' Court on April 16.

5. Angelina Jolie has made the decision to remove her ovaries and fallopian tubes after cancer cells were detected

After her double masectomy two years ago the star has now undergone another operation to avoid the deadly disease. 

The 39-year-old actress said that her mother Marcheline Bertrand died when she was 49 and that she wanted to take the action now.

Her operation will put her into forced menopause.
