BOOK collectors from across the country will, for the tenth year in a row, descend on Easter Compton for the Observer’s book fair.

Collectors of the pocket-sized books will meet to trade and swap their collections for two and a half hours on Saturday, April 11.

Amongst those at the event will be fishing book author and now collector Peter Wheat, best known for ‘The Fighting Barbel’ he has also written three books for the Observer’s series.

Organiser of the fair, Richard Edwards said: “The ten years have flown by and the event continues to go from strength to strength.

“We attract an awful lot of local people who are curious to find out more about these books that they remember fondly from the past.

“They like to know the rarity and value of their own books and bring them along to get some free advice.

“Last year’s special guest Nick Baldwin, author of transport books, proved very popular, so we hope to repeat the success this year with Peter Wheat.”

Most of the thousands of books on display at the fair will be available for sale or swap and there will be a special auction of some of the rarer books towards the end of the event. The prices raised can be unpredictable starting as little as £1 each, but it’s not unknown for the rarer copies to fetch several hundred pounds.

The fair takes place from 10am to 12.30pm at Easter Compton Village Hall. Admission is free and refreshments are available and visitors are very welcome.
