RESIDENTS in Winterbourne have reached boiling point over plans for two more fast food takeaway outlets.

Planning applications have been submitted for a hot food take away van and a new chip shop on Flaxpits Lane.

If accepted the number of fast food outlets in the village will have tripled in a year to six following the approval of a curry shop in Park Avenue last November.

Village councillors John Godwin and Allan Higgs claim the village is facing a takeaway invasion.

They said: "Winterbourne is currently under siege from businesses who want to open takeaways but it is the residents and local community who have to suffer the consequences."

"We cannot see how another takeaway is justified in our village let alone two more in the same road.

"We do not want our local village shops turned into takeaways with all the problems they can bring compared to normal shops."

Both councillors say they fear serious parking problems and for the diet of pupils at the nearby Ridings High School.

They said: "We are particularly concerned about having a chip shop so close to The Ridings School which will no doubt be a perpetual temptation to students to the detriment of their health and also potentially leaving the area littered with chip papers and wrapping.

"We are concerned that it will worsen the already serious parking problems around Flaxpits Lane shops and neighbouring residential roads. It will create a traffic and parking nightmare, in which once again residents are the ones who have to suffer the consequences
