OVER £15,000 was raised for a hospice that cares for people in South Gloucestershire during a fund-raising week where solicitors gave up their time to draw up a will for people in return for donations.
Solicitors from 16 law firms across Bristol joined forces in an initiative led by accountancy and investment management group Smith & Williamson, to raise thousands of pounds for St Peter’s Hospice during ‘Make a Will Week'.
The week saw the solicitors volunteer to draw up a standard will for visitors in return for a donation to the hospice between October 20 and 25 last year and the final count has now been revealed as over £15,000 in aid of the hospice.
Almost 100 participants took part raising the funds which will go towards caring for life-limited patients.
St Peter’s Hospice fundraiser Edd Smith said: “I’d like to extend a huge thank you to all the solicitors for donating their time and expertise to us and especially to Smith & Williamson who have sponsored the week by contributing £2,500 towards administration and organisation costs to run the campaign.”
John Erskine, partner and head of the investment management team at Smith & Williamson in Bristol, said: “We are very pleased to continue to support St Peter’s Hospice and we’re delighted that last year’s 'Make a Will Week' raised such an impressive sum.
“We look forward to supporting 'Make a Will Week' again in 2015 and I would encourage as many people as possible to use the campaign as an opportunity to make or update their will while raising much-needed funds for this much-loved local charity.”
Next year's 'Make a Will Week' will take place on Monday, October 19.
