A NEW junction on the M4 which could provide better transports links was discussed during a visit by the Transport Secretary.

Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin visited South Gloucestershire on Thursday, April 2 to discuss calls for the new junction which would provide better transport links to Emersons Green and East Bristol.

The Secretary of State met with prospective MP Luke Hall at the Bristol and Bath Science Park, following the official launch of the Gateway2Growth campaign which took place on March 27.

The makes the case for a new junction to allow easier access from Westerleigh and Yate and ease the pressure on the existing M4 junction with the M32 at Hambrook, which is the only access from the A4174 Avon Ring Road to the M4.

This will also stop the 'rat run' through Pucklechurch and Wick.

During the visit Mr McLoughlin committed to reviewing a feasibility study into the new junction once it is completed. It is currently being conducted by South Gloucestershire Council.

Adam Ward, who is in charge of managing and developing the Science Park at Emersons Green, said: "I am delighted that the Prime Minister has delivered on his promise and that the Transport Secretary has been able to visit the area and see how the proposed new junction would benefit the area. I am pleased that other businesses and organisations were able to join me in making the case to the Transport Secretary today."

Mr Hall said: “I am delighted to bring the Secretary of State to the proposed site of junction 18A, this is an issue that has been neglected for too long. There has been significant development in our local area and we need the road infrastructure to help cope with that.”
