OLDER people living in South Gloucestershire are set to benefit from a project to improve their mental health and wellbeing thanks to a £9,000 grant.

Chipping Sodbury based landlord Merlin will use the funding, made available from South Gloucestershire Council and partners, to assess the level of wellbeing of around 1,000 of its mainly older customers, living in Independent Living Communities; and promote ways to achieve positive health and wellbeing across its operating area.

Merlin’s Lead for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, Cam Kinsella, said: “We’re delighted to get this funding. We know mental health is a huge challenge for local communities, especially where our properties are, which makes understanding its impact our business.

“This project should enable a large portion of our customers to increase their wellbeing, allowing them to become more active members of the community.

The project involves carrying out a survey to measure customer wellbeing which will inform a six month activity plan.

Merlin will then resurvey the respondents again to assess the impact of its targeted work.
