THE annual Good Friday walk to Cam Peak was a successful procession – despite poor weather on the day.

The event – organised by Churches Together in Cam, Dursley and District – is a tradition for churchgoers and others in the area, and was held this year on Friday, April 3.

The main walk, carrying a large, heavy wooden cross, started outside Sainsbury's in Dursley at 9am. Another group left St Bartholomew's Church at 9am.

The two met at the bottom of Kingshill Lane and walked together to the top of Cam Peak, stopping for hymns, prayers and readings on the way.

Minister of Dursley Tabernacle the Rev Simon Helme said: “It was an impressive turnout in spite of the poor grey drizzle we experienced on the day.

“The atmosphere was very positive. It is every year. People really seem to enjoy that way of marking Good Friday.

“I know that some will hold services, which is fine, but people do seem to like the active meditation that comes with this event.”

Mr Helme delivered the final meditation at the top of Cam Peak.

This event has been held every year since 1973 and marks events that occurred in the lead up to the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
