THE police are appealing for information after a man was assaulted leaving him with serious head injuries in Cheltenham.


The incident happened at around 12.40am in the early hours of Sunday, April 19 near to The Range store on Tewkesbury Road.

A group of men and women were walking along Tewkesbury Road when they were approached by a group of men.

An altercation broke out and one of the first group, a 27-year-old man, was assaulted. He fell to the ground and the assault continued.

The victim was taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital before being transferred to Southmead Hospital in Bristol with serious head injuries.

Those injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

A 21-year-old man, 20-year-old man, a 19-year-old man and two 17-year-old boys, all from from Cheltenham have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder are currently in custody.
