CONCERNS abound the police station in Dursley which could face a change in staffing.
Gloucestershire Police have confirmed there are no plans to close Dursley Police Station but were unable to say whether or not there would be a change to the number of staff working at the station.
The Gazette understands that any potential changes will likely be a result of the force’s new operating model, which comes into effect in July.
Rumours suggesting the station may close were brought up in the April meeting of Dursley Town Council.
In the meeting two councillors said they had heard – from sources within the police – that the station may close or face a slashing of its work force in July.
Cllr Patrick, in the form of a question to the town’s county councillor Steve Lydon, said: “Could we please ask if you have any information about the imminent closure of Dursley Police Station and move to Stroud in July?
“Dursley is growing and can’t afford to lose its station.”
Cllr Ronnie Harding added that she while she was aware of rumours of closure and staffing changes she had personally heard the station had just acquired a five year lease. She concluded: “I think this does need to be clarified.”
A spokesman for Gloucestershire Police said: “There are no plans to close Dursley Police Station.
“The force’s new operating model comes into effect in July but at this point we cannot confirm if there will be any change to the level of staffing at the station.”
