WORRY spread through Wotton-under-Edge after a 75-year-old man who suffers with Alzheimer’s went missing after going out on his bike in the afternoon.

Michael Pennell, of Wotton, went missing at about 3pm on Monday, and when he didn’t return within a few hours his absence was reported to the police.

In their comment on Monday evening the police gave a description of Mr Pennell before adding: “He does like to cycle a lot but if he gets lost he is likely to stay still and not know what to do.”

After a few hours in which scores of people offered support via social media it was announced at 10.30pm that Mr Pennell had been found.

A man named Kevin Browning, of Wotton, added to the police’s comment, saying: “I've just picked him up from Bath. Fair play - I wouldn't fancy riding to bath

“I’ve just dropped him off safe and well.”

The comment that Mr Pennell had been found received nearly 300 likes on Facebook.
