NEW features have been installed in a play area in Wotton-under-Edge for a “more inclusive type of play".

The dish roundabout and nest rocker were introduced to the Symn Lane play area by Wotton Town Council with the aid of a funding contribution from a nearby housing development.

The items chosen are the result of a recent report by the National Playing Fields Association which rated the play area as ‘good’ but recommended including some play equipment for the less able of society.

Mayor of Wotton Roger Claydon said: "A recent assessment of the Play Area identified a need for some ‘inclusive’ play equipment and the Town Council is delighted to have been able to provide two new items - a which are suitable for all children to access and enjoy."

The introduction of the new equipment, however, is couples with a trial overnight closure of the play area during the summer months due to anti-social behaviour which has been causing distress to residents.

The trial will involve residents in the area taking turns to lock and unlock the play area.

It will be closed by 9pm in the evenings and open again by 8am the next morning on every day, including weekends.
