STUDENTS from a youth theatre group are celebrating after receiving a donation from a supermarket giant.

Northavon Youth Theatre Company (NYTC) were runners-up in Asda in Patchway’s green token scheme, winning £50 from the Asda Community Life pot.

Several of the group’s members visited the store, for the handover of the funds from Lisa Godber, Asda’s community life champion.

This award comes hot on the heels of NYTC’s hugely successful Easter show – Sunshine on Leith – which entertained local audiences during its run at the Armstrong Hall in Thornbury earlier this month.

Students aged 11 to 18 attend the Northavon School of Drama and its productions are staged under the NYTC banner.

Lyn Bedford, NYTC’s director and principal of the drama school, said: “Thank you Asda! This is just the icing on the cake after all the effort the students put in to create such a wonderful show.

“Ticket sales alone never fully fund the cost of the show, so we’re really grateful to Asda and all the local companies and organisations who support us and give our young people the chance to be involved in such a fantastic group.”
