STUDENTS in Winterbourne swapped their uniforms for their favourite football shirts to raise money for a bowel cancer charity.

Winterbourne International Academy students donned their favourite football shirts and raised £283.05 for the Bobby Moore Fund, a bowel cancer research charity in partnership with Cancer Research UK, on Friday, April 17.

Boys and girls in all year groups got involved with the uniform swap and wore their team colours with pride in aid of the research charity, which was set up in memory of legendary footballer Bobby Moore, who sadly died from bowel cancer aged just 51-years-old.

As captain of the only England football team ever to win the World Cup, Bobby Moore remains one of the greatest sporting heroes in football.

His wife, Stephanie Moore MBE established the Bobby Moore Fund in partnership with Cancer Research UK in 1993 to raise money for research into bowel cancer and increase public awareness of the disease.

Mr Andrew Fudge, deputy head of year eight who helped instigate the charity day at the academy, said: "It was a pleasure to see so many students and staff joining in the spirit of this event so thank you to everyone who got involved."

The Bobby Moore Fund has raised over £21 million to date with funds being spent on pioneering bowel cancer research carried out by leading scientists working across the UK.
