DANCE performances, a fancy dress procession and Disney-themed fun will take over Winterbourne Down next week with the return of the annual village carnival.


The Winterbourne Down Village Carnival will kick off on Saturday, May 2 and an exciting line-up of performers and entertainment has been announced for the three-day event.


The carnival has the theme of Disney this year and children and parents will be treated to a visit from Disney hit film Frozen’s Princess Elsa, a Bristol look-a-like who will be opening the event on Monday, May 4.


Family line-dancing, a treasure hunt and a scarecrow trail will also be on offer over the carnival from May 2 to May 4, as well as appearances from the carnival’s May Queen Esme Lewis, 8 and her and two attendants is Cassie van Mazyk, 6 and Maisy Turner, 5.


Sue Cessford, publicity officer for the carnival, said: "Our theme this year is Disney and we have been lucky enough to secure a visit from Bristol’s Elsa look-a-like who has agreed to open the carnival on Monday and she hopes to be able to spend the day with us.


"Our main charity this year is Make a Wish and we hope to raise a large amount over the weekend to donate to this worthy cause.


"Volunteers are urgently need to help on carnival Monday as well as good quality items for the carnival fund-raising stall, to find out more contact Fred Smith on 01454 772072."


The carnival's charity Make A Wish grants magical wishes to children and young people fighting life-threatening conditions.


Programmes for the event can be purchased from Winterbourne Library, Newsagent in Bradley Avenue, Cross Hands, SalonFifty2 and committee members at a price of 30p (including tear off lucky prize strip).
