FIREFIGHTERS were called to rescue a dog from a house on fire in Stoke Gifford.

The fire and rescue service was to called to reports of a fire in a terrace property on Tinding Drive yesterday morning with crews attending from Temple, Southmead, Bath, Avonmouth and Portishead fire stations.

On arrival firefighters found a well-developed fire on the first floor of the property. A woman in her 20s who had been in the building had already escaped, and firefighters entered to rescue a dog which was still in the property.

Firefighters in breathing apparatus used a high pressure hose reel and jets to extinguish the fire.

Crews were successful in tackling the fire and preventing it from affecting properties either side of the house, but there was extensive damage to the first floor as a result of it.

The cause of the fire is currently investigation.
