A CLUB that organises motorcycle trails across the district made a donation to a care home in Stinchcombe.

The chairman and secretary of Stroud Valley Motor Club paid a visit to Yercombe Lodge in Stinchcombe to present a cheque of £250.

Yercombe Lodge offers respite care to people of varying disabilities, enabling them to go out on day trips and take part in a wide range of activities.

Chairman of the motor club Phil Marsh said: “We organise trails across the five valleys and in the process of doing that end up accumulating a surplus. We’re a non-profit club so we like to put that back into the community.

“Recently we made a donation of the same amount to the Alzheimer’s Society, as one of our members suffered from the condition.

“In this case our secretary’s wife attends the day centre here, so it’s a cause we have an interest in.”

The money will go towards activities in the centre, like cooking or crafts, as well as their frequent day trips

Club secretary Nigel Tomkins said: “I’ve been out on a few good trips with the group myself, to a butterfly centre and out on a canal.

“But I imagine they’ll also be putting some of the money into the activities they do here. It’s completely up to them what they decide to do with it.”

Angela Turner is the manager of Yercombe Lodge.

She said: “We are a charity so it is a big help to receive donations of this kind, and allows us more freedom when organising activities and trips out for the people here.”

Stroud Valley Motor Club are always on the lookout for new members and volunteers. The trails they organise around the area cover a huge range of age groups, from eight to over 80.
