Over 300 people gathered in Yate for a minute silence in memory of those who have lost their lives in the Tunisian beach attack.

Yate Shopping Centre fell silent at midday on Friday, July 3 in memory of the victims.

Yate Town Councillor Wully Perks said: "I came up with idea to hold the silence in the centre, with the whole nation remembering those who have died.

"We had more than 300 people come along to the short act of Remembrance, led by myself as lay minister in Yate and Sodbury Vale Parish, including families with lots of small children, who I thought may not be silent but they were.

"It was absolutely dead quiet during the silence, you could hear a pin drop. Then I conducted a short service and prayer, and the crowd joined in with the lord's prayer.

"Lots of people came up to me afterwards and said they were praying particularly for the families of those affected by the Tunisia attack, for whom that moment would have been difficult time."

38 people lost their lives when a gunman opened fire on tourists staying in the popular resort of Port El Kantaoui, just north of Sousse in Tunisia, at around midday local time on Friday, June 26.

Thirty of those killed have been confirmed as British and were staying at the Hotel Rui Imperial Marhaba and neighbouring Hotel Rui Bellevue Park.
