IT IS rare for a happy ending to come from an attempted cashpoint theft.
But for Kim Farmer, what could have been one of the worst days of her life turned into an inspirational and unforgettable experience that may also change the lives of others.
When Mrs Farmer was the victim of an attempted mugging at a Southmead Hospital cashpoint, she used her quick-thinking to protect herself, and practised skills she learnt from her first and only self-defence class.
Not only did she avoid the theft of her belongings, Mrs Farmer also proved that having knowledge of self-defence can truly make a difference.
It is obvious why she is now encouraging others to partake in classes.
Her success story is reassuring to hear, but also highlights the importance of women –- and men –- knowing what to do in this type of situation.
Clearly, using the correct actions can act as an advantage and ensure you are prepared for the unexpected. Through only one class, a theft was avoided.
Spreading word of the options available to your family and friends, whether they be classes or other forms of defence training, is also vital in avoiding as many thefts and assaults as possible.
Inevitably, you can not control your future, but by actively seeking advice on what to do in the worst case scenario, you are improving the chances of your own success story.
