A MUSIC group based in Thornbury celebrated a successful year with a superb end of year summer showcase.

Held at Castle School on Saturday, July 11, the concert featured members of the Thornbury Area Youth Music group across all age groups.

The group’s youngest members – the Thornbury Area Junior Music Centre – kicked off the event with a concert. The Foundation and Music Maker groups (four to eight-year-olds) delighted the audience with a Chinese dance and musical treat.

This was followed by a performance from the first intake of instrumental students of the groups highly successful Let’s Play scheme, concluding their performance with a rousing rendition of Let It Go from Disney’s Frozen.

After a short break the training strings and wind bands and training orchestra took to the stage. This section of the showcase was brought to a close with the training orchestra giving a thrilling performance of A Night on Bare Mountain and then the theme from the Wallace and Gromit movies.

The evening finished with performances from the Senior Wind Band, Senior String Orchestra and Senior Orchestra.

Amongst the attendees at the event was Thornbury and Yate MP Luke Hall who praised the groups members for a “fantastic concert”.

“It was a fantastic evening at Castle School watching the Summer Concert,” he said. “I would like to congratulate everybody who performed in such an excellent show, which demonstrates the talent and enthusiasm that we have in our local area.

“Everyone has worked so hard to get the students to the level they are at now, and it was great to hear that almost all of the children are staying involved next year.”
