BRAVE Yate woman Jenny Scott is shedding her bright red locks next weekend to raise money for a cancer charity.

Jenny, 31, a self-confessed hair dye enthusiast, decided to have her head shaved after seeing a Macmillan Cancer Support advert on Facebook.

“I just thought why not,” she said. “I like to dye my hair. I've been about 6 different colours this year alone. Playing with my hair has always been fun for me.

“But my hair is a luxury, I’ve got lots of it and it is always going to grow back.”

Jenny, who works in administration for a surveying company in Chipping Sodbury, chose a cancer charity because her grandmother Anthea Scott died of the disease.

“My mum lost her mum to breast cancer a few months before she got pregnant with my brother,” she said.

“It had quite a profound effect on her being a mother without her own mother around.

“Everyone knows someone affected by cancer and I have seen the work Macmillan does. They support people so well at the worst times of their lives.”

Jenny has previously run the Race for Life in aid of Cancer Research UK but is otherwise new to fundraising.

“The Race for Life gave me such a great feeling to be able to raise money for charity,” she said.

“But I am not particularly fit so having my head shaved is something I can easily do.

“I think it will take a good couple of months before my hair is long enough to be a wearable style again but I am confident that by Christmas it will be fine.”

Jenny hopes to raise £500 for Macmillan after already surpassing her £200 target having collected £395 in sponsorship.

She will have her head shaved at Reflections in Yate Shopping Centre on Saturday (August 8) at 9.15am. To sponsor Jenny visit https://bravetheshave.org.uk/shavers/jenny-scott/
