A MULTIPLE award-winning Dursley pub has added another to its collection after a visit from a representative of Sawday’s.

Its inspectors have visited more than 1000 pubs across England and Wales whilst putting together the 12th edition of its best-selling guide to pubs.

Fifteen were decided to be special enough to win awards – including The Old Spot. They were one of only three winners in the Authentic Pub Award category.

Renowned for its selection of beers, the pub was named the National Pub of the Year by CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) in 2008.

Described as “a joy” for ale-lovers the inspector praised the pub as friendly, no-nonsense and traditional. Whilst also commenting on its famed ale choice.

Landlord of The Old Spot, Josh Bailey, said that it was fantastic to win yet another national prize.

“This is my first award as manager at the pub so it’s particularly special,” he said.

“To be recognised is fantastic particularly in the authentic category because it shows our heritage and that we’re continuing that.

“The pub runs itself, really. We have brilliant staff and the locals are great which makes the pub a great place.”

Beating more than 1000 of the best drinking establishments England and Wales has to offer managing director at Sawday’s, Toby Sawday, said that the pub was “special”.

Toby Sawday, managing director of Sawday’s, said: “Competition for our annual awards has never been fiercer, the winners really embody the Sawday’s spirit of special, demonstrating creativity and excellence.

As an award-winner The Old Spot gets added prominence featured in the recently-released book Sawday’s Places Pubs & Inns of England & Wales. The book is available at www.sawdays.co.uk.
