AN ART club in Thornbury celebrated its 50th year in the town with a special exhibition.

Thornbury Art Club held a golden jubilee exhibition to reflect on the club’s 50th anniversary from August 1 to 8.

The exhibition, held at Thornbury Methodist Church, was launched by the mayor of Thornbury, cllr Guy Rawlinson.

Tricia Latham, chairman of Thornbury Art Club said: “It was a fantastic exhibition, with an extra ‘mini’ exhibition of ‘Little Gems’ - 100 little, mounted, square paintings which, assembled together - a work of art in itself.

“We had a 'Memorabilia Room' with photos, posters, scrapbooks and more, spanning our 50 years and the projects we’ve done.

“The mayor also unveiled, or rather, untied a red ribbon, from around the jubilee book ‘A Moment in Time’, published to mark the occasion.

“The book is a compilation of paintings by 86 club members, together with a few words and contains the work of three founder members.”

“There was so much to view and a wonderful variety of paintings to purchase.”

Thornbury and District Stroke Support Association also exhibited in the church during the celebration period.

Cllr Rawlinson said: “Being mayor is a great privilege as I get invited to events where I can see all the great things that local residents are doing.

"The art club's Golden Jubilee exhibition is no exception and the displays from both the members of the art club and the Thornbury & District Stroke Support Group were wonderful."

The art club meets at Armstrong Hall Complex, Chapel Street, on the first Wednesday of each month.
