THE long wait for A-level results day came to an end for students in a Dursley school – with relief spreading among the majority as they discovered they’d achieved their desired grades.

A lot of shaky hands could be seen nervously opening envelopes in Dursley’s Rednock School last Thursday as students discovered how they performed in their A-level exams.

As usual, the school performed well, with many 18 year olds now looking to the future as they prepare to leave home for universities all over the UK.

Alex Knight, 18, of Wanswell near Berkeley, received stellar marks in chemistry, geography, human biology and Spanish.

“I’m really happy with my results. I was quite nervous this morning so it was a relief to find out I got what I wanted,” he said.

“I’m hopefully going to apply for university next year, but first of all I’m going to take a year out and get some experience working at Cattle Country.”

Callum Bennett from neighbouring Cam was surprised at his success. He received all As and Bs in his courses of chemistry, physics and maths.

“I was majorly surprised to see my results this morning. It was a pleasant shock,” he said.

“I’m hopefully going off to Bath University now, and then the Royal Marine Commandos after that.”

Headteacher at Rednock Dave Alexander was thrilled that so many of his pupils would be going off to the university of their choice.

He said: “As a school where every child matters, ours students have done well irrespective of their starting points.

“High achievers have done very well, and virtually every student is on their way to their chosen university.

“The next step is so important for students – at Rednock School this is our aim to provide what the students need to succeed. Once again our students have the outcomes to progress to the next stage.”
