TEN firefighters responded when a call came in informing them of a lorry fire on the M5 this morning (Monday).

The fire service received calls to a lorry on fire on the northbound carriageway of the M5 between junctions 12 and 11 just before 7am this morning.

Crews from Gloucester South and Gloucester North fire stations were mobilised with ten firefighters to deal with the incident.

On arrival the Gloucester South crew confirmed the incident to be located just north of the new Gloucester Services and involved a lorry carrying a crane.

The lorry had pulled over to the hard shoulder and firefighters used one hose reel and a dry powder extinguisher to stop the fire.  The lorry was left only slightly damaged.

Highways teams were also on scene to assist the crews with traffic control.

The fire service remained in the area for just over 30 minutes.  No one was hurt in the fire.
