A TREE in Charfield which has been ‘yarn bombed’ has been dubbed a ‘village mystery’.

Villagers have spotted the tree, at the end of Manor Lane, wrapped in a knitted rug with a poem attached.

The activity, known as yarn bombing or guerrilla knitting, is considered to be a type of graffiti or street art, using knitted yarn to create colourful displays.

Clerk of Charfield Parish Council Hannah Saunders was made aware of the tree’s new attire and attached poem 'Leisure' by William Henry Davies yesterday morning.

“I had a phone call stating that there appeared to be a rug or blanket around the trunk of the willow tree at end of Manor Lane,” she said.

“I love the poem on the tree.”

Resident and member of Clean Up Green Up Charfield, Sue Simmons, said: “It’s quite sweet really, nothing sinister or harmful at all - a village mystery.”

The village is yet to find out the identity of the yarn bomber.
