LOCALS at our region’s finest pubs have one last chance to nominate their favourite watering hole in our Pub of the Year competition.

The Gazette has received hundreds of nominations from readers eager to share the reasons why their local should win the prestigious title.

Since launching the competition in July, The Horseshoe in Chipping Sodbury has received over 300 nominations with the Rose and Crown in Rangeworthy, the Falcon Steakhouse in Wotton-under-Edge and The Fleece in Hillesley also doing well.

Three separate prizes will be awarded for each Gazette edition, in Dursley, Thornbury and Yate and Chipping Sodbury.

As well as a trophy, landlords at the winning three pubs will be invited to Westminster for the day with Thornbury and Yate MP Luke Hall and Stroud MP Neil Carmichael who are supporting the competition. The winning pub’s brewery will be able to sell their beer from the Stranger’s Bar in the House of Commons for the day.

Mr Hall said: “Pubs are the lifeblood of many of our local communities and this award is a great way of recognising and celebrating that.”

Mr Carmichael said: “Local pubs really matter to our communities. It is a fabulous opportunity for pubs to enter this excellent competition.”

The closing date for nominations is Bank Holiday Monday, August 31. Send details of your favourite pub in South Gloucestershire to reporter Alexandra Womack via sodbury@gazetteseries.co.uk or to nominate a pub in the Gloucestershire area email stuart.rust@gazetteseries.co.uk

Details of a public vote to find the winning three pubs will follow.
