YATE teenager Luke Hedger is anticipating a great weekend when he takes part in his biggest ever contest, the British Moto GP at Silverstone

He will be racing for the team he won the British Championship with back in 2012, FPW Racing team and has always had a very good relationship and have always stayed in touch.

Hedger got a phone call about six weeks ago from  the team owner Adrian Mason, asking if he would race his FPW Racing Moto 3 bike for him.

Hedger was over the moon for the opportunity and said: "I am so excited to be able to take part in the British Moto 3 Championship these opportunities don't come around very often, it's has been a dream for me to race at world level. I can't thank the FPW Race team enough and every one that have got me to where I am now.”

The racing will start from Friday, which is the first free practice session all his sessions, and will be live on the BT Sport  2 Channel.

It is a busy time for Hedger as he travelled to Lincolnshire last weekend to compete in round eight of the British Supersport championship at Cadwell Park.

Friday saw him in action for his two practice sessions but these we're plagued by mechanical and technical problems, but the Gearlink team and Hedger's crew work tirelessly to sort them out in time for qualifying.

With only having a little time to find a good set up, Hedger didn't do to bad for qualifying but only managed to put his Gearlink Kawasaki on row four for the first of two races which was mainly due to bad grip issues due to the heat.

The sprint race on Saturday was brought to an abrupt halt on lap 2 due to a few riders crashing out. So for the re-start Hedger got off the line  better but found him self in a lonely 8th position for most of the race bring it home safe for some valuable points

He was placed in eighth on the grid in the second race and got a good start moving him up to seventh.

Hedger put in some good solid lap times which saw him move through to sixth, where he finished at the end of the 16 lap race.

He said later-”It was a good weekend in the end after a difficult start with the bike set up and the tech problems I had early on,but my crew and the Gearlink Kawasaki team pulled it all together and got the bike sorted for me in time for qualifying .

"I started to pick up the pace in qualifying and things did progress well from there. I was happy with the times I have achieved this weekend, I have gone faster round Cadwell then ever before and I wasn't to far away from the pace of the leading group.

"I have also moved up another place in  the championship to seventh place which I am really happy about, again I would like to thank all my sponsors, family and crew for all there help."
