STUDENTS and staff have worked together to create a reflective place at their school in Thornbury.

Marlwood School now offers its students a quiet and calm area during lunch and breaktimes, after students recognised the need for a more reflective meeting area to be developed.

During the school’s enrichment week over the summer, a team of Yr 10 and 11 students worked with staff to create the area, which can now be used by students of all ages.

Local businesses helped create the reflective place by donating items to the school, in Vattingstone Lane, along the way.

Headteacher James Pope said: “This kind of project, with so many staff and students working in and outside of school hours for the benefit of others, is what I think embodies the excellent community values of the school.

“We all look forward to using this new feature of the school in the future.”

Assisted by Eastwood Park Garden Centre, Waitrose and local gardeners a set of planters filled with flowers was created along with new benches for staff and students to use during the school day.

A set of gates, from the original Thornbury Grammar School, were fitted and plans are now afoot to add a water feature and more furniture.
