SCARECROWS were welcomed visitors to Rockhampton as a special addition to the village’s annual flower and produce show.

The village’s first ever scarecrow trail was enjoyed by the crowds of visitors to the Rockhampton Flower and Produce Show on Saturday, September 5.

The trail ran from September 4 to 6, and brought over 30 customised scarecrows to various parts of the village.

Nicky Auburn, a member of the show's planning committee who helped organise the trail, said the new addition to the show was enjoyed by many.

"We had hundreds of people come through the village, up and down the lanes, using our trail maps to find the scarecrows," she said.

"With over 30 scarecrows with loads of different and unique designs, from disco dancers to divers and a wedding scene, it was just fantastic.

"Loads of people were talking about the trail after, it was definitely hugely successful. We look forward to bringing it back next year and hopefully making it permanent - and welcoming even more entries."

The show, held at Rockhampton Cricket Club, started with a parade of themed floats, and treated visitors with various traditional stalls, local food and drinks and live music.

Over 150 people visited the show with 50 taking part in the exhibits.

Chris and Catherine White-Horne, who organised the show, said this year's event was hugely successful with 300 entries into the various classes.

“Very few rules meant many new people were encouraged to enter," they said.

"We were delighted to see so many people at the show, especially those who had never exhibited before.

“The show combined the best traditions of the past with some new ideas. Choosing winners by the voting of visitors was very popular, especially the tasting.”

Patsy Hurley was the show’s overall winner, receiving the Marie Ball Cup, and Penny Dommett as runner up.
