POLICE are appealing for witnesses after an articulated lorry overturned into a ditch on the M4.

The lorry was travelling between junctions 21 and 22 westbound at about 6.30am on Friday (September 25) when it overturned.

The driver, a 28-year-old Romanian national, was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol with serious injuries and remains in a critical condition.

The westbound stretch of the M4 was closed for more than two hours to allow for an examination of the scene to take place and to allow the lorry to be recovered.

Anyone who witnessed this incident, or has any information which could help police, is asked to call the Collision Investigation Unit via 101 and quote log number 160 of 25 September.
