FIRE investigators are on the scene of a blaze which has seen more than 120 students put into temporary accommodation in Bristol.
Colston Street, where the fire took hold on the fifth floor of a block of flats yesterday lunchtime, is still closed to traffic while inspectors assess how safe the building is.
The fire broke out just after 1pm on Monday (October 12) and smoke and flames could be seen billowing across the city skyline. The blaze spread across the roof of the building but all students were evacuated and no-one was injured in the incident.
This morning, Avon Fire and Rescue Service spokesman James Bladon said some firefighters remained on the scene damping down the building.
He added: "We carried out regular re-inspections during the course of the night and have been damping down hot spots and any small pockets of fire which remain.
"Colston Street remains closed due to the structural stability of the building. It will remain closed until the building can be made safe."
He said inspections were continuing into the cause of the fire.
