YOUNGSTERS were flying with fun when pigeons were set free at their Olveston school.

The Royal Pigeon Racing Association (RPRA) spent a day at Olveston Primary School to give pupils an understanding of the role the birds played in the Second World War.

The visit, led by general manager of the association Stewart Wardrop, saw the release of four pigeons and was part of Year 5 and 6 pupils’ lessons on war and peace.

Teacher Maria Vizard said: “A huge thank you to Mrs Annette Bishop, one of our valued non-teaching staff, who gave me the information about the RPRA.

"It was an inspired idea and one that the pupils will not forget.”
