TRAVEL information will be issued to new residents of a South Cerney housing complex in order to encourage them to leave their cars at home.

Developer Redrow Homes is building 150 houses its Cerney on the Water complex in the village.

Travel consultants AECOM are set to issue information packs to the new and existing residents of the development in order to remind them of the existing and sustainable methods of transport available to them such as using a bike and walking.

AECOM will also be issuing surveys to residents, to help it work out the specific transport requirements for each resident, and 10 per cent off bikes and accessories at Halfords.

James Neville from AECOM explained the benefits of the travel packs to councillors at the South Cerney Parish Council meeting on Wednesday, October 14.

He said: “The surveys help them work out what travel infrastructure they would be most likely to use.

He explained that he thought a lot of people who would be buying the homes in the development would be driving to work in places like Swindon and London .

“What we are trying to do is to understand those at are trying to make that journey in the car, also people who are going to the school and the shops [places near the Cerney on the Water development].

ACOM is putting together the travel information on behalf of the county council and one of its aim is to reduce car use of those living on Cerney on the Water by 5 per cent.
