THIEVES have stolen a giant model carrot from the farm belonging to Prince Charles near Tetbury.

Police are currently investigating the theft at the royal’s property at Duchy Home Farm which took place on Hallowe’en.

The 100kg wooden vegetable was on display on the roadside at the entrance to the Prince of Wales' well-guarded estate near Shipton Moyne.

It was stolen between 4pm on October 31 and 10am the next day.

Police said the operation would have needed ‘two persons and at least a van’ to carry out.

A spokeswoman from Clarence House, the official London residence of royals, confirmed the theft, saying the carrot was part of a signpost advertising a small stall at the side of the road selling organic vegetables.

“It works as an honesty system, so people come along and put money in the box in return for produce gown at the farm,” she said.

“The stall has been running for many years, and the carrot itself was carved out of a tree trunk and painted bright orange.

“But sadly sometime in the evening or overnight on Hallowe’en it was stolen.”

The 900 acre organic farm is part of the gardens of Highgrove House, the Prince and Duchess of Cornwall‘s family home

As the country residence of the heir to the throne, Highgrove House is well protected by security.

Gloucestershire police confirmed enquiries were ongoing to trace the unknown offenders and appealed for anyone who saw anything suspicious to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, quoting incident number 311 of 1/11/15.
