A CARE home in Yate where a paranoid schizophrenic killed his step-grandmother is among several in the region expected to go up for sale.

Oaktree House, in Brimsham Park, is one of 11 care homes run by Four Seasons Health Care which is under threat as the parent company prepares to make cuts to stave off a takeover from an American firm.

Last year Ryan Guest, 34, pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of 87-year-old Una Dorney after claiming he had received a message from God.

Guest, of Birkdale in Yate, was held on remain in Bristol Prison where he attacked fellow inmate Mohamed Sharif, 38. He pleaded guilty to the attempted murder of Mr Sharif.

This year, Oaktree was rated inadequate by the Care Quality Commission.

Four Seasons Healthcare, a subsidiary of Laudcare Limited, also owns Stanshawes Care Home in Yate and in total has 250 properties on its portfolio.

The company has not yet confirmed which of its homes were going up for sale but said it had already sold nine of a planned 23 it wanted to dispose of.

A spokesman said: "We have said on numerous occasions over recent years that the group is disposing of non-core properties that do not fit its long term strategy.

"This is not a new development. All major care home operators review and fine tune their estate from time to time.”
