A YELLOW warning for rain on Wednesday has been updated to include parts of South Gloucestershire.

The Met Office has issued severea weather warnings for much of the West of the UK as Storm Jonas, which wreaked havoc eastern USA over the weekend, arrives.

Up to 80mm of rain could hit some areas.

The Met Office chief forecaster said: "Active frontal systems will affect Wales, north west and south west England through the second half of Tuesday and into Wednesday.

"Warm air of tropical origins has been entrained into the system, which accompanied by abundant moisture, will lead to heavy rain in areas exposed to the strong southwesterly flow.

"Many parts of the warning area could see a further 20-40 mm of rain, whilst the most exposed upland parts could see a further 50-80 mm.

"There remains some uncertainty regarding the exact location of the areas at risk of the heaviest rain, as well as the end time. Therefore, this warning will be updated as confidence increases."

The warning for South Gloucestershire is in place from 3am on Wednesday until 6pm.
