DOCTORS’ surgeries in Frampton-on-Severn and Almondsbury have been named the best in Gloucestershire and South Gloucestershire respectively.

Almondsbury Surgery was one of just 39 GP surgeries in the country to receive 100 per cent ‘good’ ratings overall in a patient survey.

The GP patient survey covers everything from the trust patients have in their doctor, to waiting times and how easy it is to get an appointment.

Almondsbury Surgery performed well above the average for the South Gloucestershire CCG area for “respondents with a preferred GP usually getting to see or speak to that GP” – 92 per cent of patients at the surgery agreed with the statement compared to the average of 55 per cent for the area.

The surgery also performed well for ease of being able to contact it by phone and for the number of people describing the process of booking an appointment as good.

Practice manager at the surgery which serves just under 5,000 patients, Margaret Warren, said that whilst the results were pleasing they always take them with a pinch of salt.

"We like to keep an ethos of having personal contact with patients. Being a smaller practice does make it easier to communicate easily within the team and implement change faster.

"When designing services and policy we like to think that it is with the patient in mind not despite them."

Frampton Surgery was top of the pile for the Gloucestershire CCG area with 99 per cent of patients giving it an overall rating of good.

Respondents showed the surgery performed above average with regards to the number of people having to wait for more than 15 minutes after their appointment to be seen, the number of patients able to see their preferred GP and the experience of booking appointments.

Practice manager Jane White said: "We're lucky to have such great patients. It is fantastic to see such great comments about our surgery and we're really grateful for the positive feedback."

Only the Marybrook Medical Centre in Berkeley fell below the Gloucestershire CCG overall experience average in the Gazette area whilst in South Gloucestershire Pilning Surgery, West Walk Surgery in Yate and Thornbury Health Centre – Dr Burney performing below the average.
